Minutes for Saturday, February 26, 2011 - Bob's Diner, Delta
In attendance: Mac & Donna Reath,
Doug & Cindy Cross, Brian Sutherland, Bill Richards, Ken
Campbell, Greg & Susie Kinghorn, Bruce Elder , Don Banham,
Derrick Reath, Dave Smith, Ron McNairn, Bill Wilson, Karin Brose.
Meeting was called to order by Mac
Reath at 9:48 am.
There was a discussion of the issues
surrounding a Facebook page (Old Bastards Rally) that had been
created by a fellow from Kingston. Our webmistress, Karin, contacted
him and kindly requested that he not post anything using our name and
logo (which had been downloaded from our website) without getting in
touch with us first. He reacted negatively, but took down the page
nonetheless. The table was advised that we have both a general
Facebook page and a dedicated rally page, in addition to our website.
It was requested that a link to the Facebook pages be put on our
website, and Karin indicated that she will look into the process.
She also advised that the Buy/Sell/Trade link on our webpage is now
active, and invited members to contact her with regard to anything
they'd like to have posted. Bill Wilson has kindly provided a
scanner for club use, which Karin will be using to post pics and
information to the website.
There was a brief discussion regarding
the membership list. Our northern members have requested that any
memberships channeled through the NOBs be designated as such on our
membership list. Karin advised the group that Secretary Jen Williams
was in the process of transferring member information to the new club
computer. The technicalities of determining who is or isn't a NOB
still need to be worked out, as there are people within the northern
geographical area who remit their dues directly to Jen.
Treasurer Dave Smith reported that our
bank balance is $5061. The funds from our Christmas lunch have been
put back into the books. Karin has tried repeatedly to contact Cliff
Edwards, but it is believed he is out of the country.
Bill Wilson reported that at the last
NOB breakfast, held in Pembroke, there were 51 ppl. In attendance.
The next NOB meeting will be held in Renfrew on 27 March. The Cycle
Salvage swap meet, hosted by Felix, will be taking place in Ottawa on
21 May.(**PLEASE NOTE - THIS DATE HAS SINCE BEEN CHANGED...SEE THE 'EVENTS' LISTING***) It was noted that there will be 'an event of some sort'
taking place on 28 May. The NOB rally will take place on the 2nd
weekend in June in Ladysmith. The CVMG Rally will take place in
Oxford Mills on July 9th, and replaces the St. Albert
Rally. There will be a NOB rally held at Tucker Lake on 13 August,
in conjunction with the Low Ribfest. Bill also reported that NOB
meetings are now held at 10am.
There was nothing to report regarding
Regalia, as nothing was sold in the month of January.
With a motion from Mac Reath, and with
all in favour, the meeting concluded at 11:11.
Old Bastards Vintage
Motorcycle Club Annual General Meeting
Minutes January 29, 2011
Present: Lorne Sutherland, Dave
Smith, Mike Moore, Donald Banham, Marc Baille, Derrick Reath, Ernie
Olivo, Terry Olivo, Bill Wilson, Ron LaFlamme, Ron McNairn, Bruce
Elder, Ralph Thompson, Fran McLean, Donna Reath, Mac Reath, Karin
Brose, Jamie Swain
President Ralph Thompson called the
meeting to order at 11:28 a.m., all present introduced themselves.
With the addition of a report from our
Northern section to the agenda, the agenda was approved by all.
Upon motion by Bill Wilson, and being
seconded by Ernie Olive, the minutes of the 2010 AGM were approved by
all. As there was no business arising from those minutes, we
proceeded to the President's thanks and a review of the year.
President's Report:
President Ralph Thompson extended a
thank you to the Executive and the Members, and said that he was
feeling 'as comfortable as I was last year' in heading our
organization. Special thanks were given to Stuart MacFarlane (Vice.
Pres, Northern section) and to Director Bill Wilson for maintaining
such a strong connection between those of us down south and the NOBS.
Ernie Olivo, Susie and Greg Kinghorn received thanks for all their
hard work, which gave us our most successful rally to date. Thanks to Jen Williams, our secretary, (Cricket to most of us), who has
worked very hard behind the scenes this year to keep us all informed and
up to date. This has been a challenge as she worked with an aging and
cantankerous computer. Dave
Smith, Ron McNairn and Karin Brose were thanked for taking on their
jobs of Treasurer, Regalia Officer and Web Mistress, and doing such
great jobs. To a round of thunderous applause, Fran McLean was
thanked for keeping Ralph “on track and focused”.
2010 was a great year for the Old
Bastards. We had a good showing at the CAV event, and the NOB event
in Ladysmith was most definitely worth the trip for those who were
able to attend. Our own 9th Annual Rally in Delta was our
most successful ever, and fun was had by all. We had a good turnout
to the CVMG Rally in Paris as well, with members of both sections in
attendance, and lots of Old Bastard t-shirts on the scene. Wednesday
night bike nights were attended, as was the River Rat Rally, where
Dave Smith and Ralph Thompson won their categories, and Karin Brose
got an Honorable Mention. Thanks again to Ron McNairn for
coordinating the set-up of regalia sales there, and for staffing the
site for the weekend.
Secretary's Report:
As Secretary Jen
Williams was unable to attend, there was no report given.
Treasurer's Report:
Dave Smith
reported that our current bank balance is $5833 and we are carrying a
payable of $1674 for the laptop that's been purchased for use of the
Secretary, for a net of $4158. (Figures rounded to the nearest
dollar) As MacNeil's Landing ceased operations immediately after our
meeting and Christmas gathering, our payment of $441 was never
processed. It will be added to the books as an outstanding debt.
Donald Banham noted that these funds should be forwarded to the
Trustee in cases of bankruptcy; Karin Brose will contact Cliff
Edwards and make an inquiry and report back at the next meeting.
Regalia Report:
In December, $424
of regalia was sold; there is no annual total immediately available.
Ron McNairn displayed one of the new sweatshirts that will be
available in the spring, and indicated that he's also looking into
the possibility of license plate brackets and keychains as items to
carry in inventory for the coming year.
Director's Reports:
Bill Wilson
presented a comprehensive report of NOB activity in 2010. The NOB
membership count for 2010/2011 is 139, including 2 Life Memberships.
$2740 in dues were contributed to our coffers from the sale of these
memberships, although it was noted that there may be additional
members and dollars that could be added to that amount, since some
NOB memberships may have been processed by Jen Williams. Since 2007,
there have been 223 NOB members. In addition, in 2010 the NOBs
purchased $2759 worth of regalia for re-sale at their events.,
bringing the total amount of flow-through to approx. $5500.
Bill also reported on NOB donations within their community, which
total $4030 to date. In addition, funds from the Mother Club - $1000
each in 2009 and 2010 – have been donated to four local hospitals.
Over four years, we have jointly donated over $6000 to worthy
recipients! A letter was presented that was received by one of the
organizations receiving NOB funding. The Low, QC. Social Services
Centre sent a letter of thanks which provided information about how
the donation was used to present 8 families with food during the
Christmas season. In addition, a sample of the NOB fundraising
information letter was provided for the group's perusal and for
archival purposes.
The group was also
provided with some interesting statistics regarding impact on the NOB
local economy: With an average of 50 members at each of their 11
monthly breakfasts, and an average of $10 per meal spent, approx.
$5500 has gone to local privately-owned restaurants.
Karin Brose
reported that the OB website is up and running again; she is always
looking for interesting information to add, and would welcome
information such as upcoming events or web links that may be of
interest to our members. Bill Wilson has offered the use of a
scanner, which will allow the many photos she has on file to be
uploaded to the site.
Special Events:
Ernie
Olivo reported that the 2011 rally will be our 10th
annual. It has grown significantly over the years, and has the
potential to 'go viral' in the coming years as the word is spreading
that it's a great party. Lower Beverly Lake Park could easily
accommodate a couple hundred people if needed. We are booked for
2001, with details yet to be formalized. Ernie indicated that we
need to form committees to divvy up the workload, and have individual
coordinators to find and oversee volunteers for specific tasks.
Director's Reports
were well received, and it was moved by Fran McLean and seconded by
Mac Reath that they be accepted as presented, with all in favour.
Election of Executive Officers for
2011:
As there were no
new candidates coming forward, it was moved by Mac Reath and seconded
by Derrick Reath that the following individuals continue as Directors
for 2011:

Other Business:
It was moved by Ernie Olivo, and seconded by Mac Reath, that the
rally coordinator be a member of the Executive. The motion was
passed with all in favour. Ernie also congratulated Bill Wilson on
the content and presentation of the Northern section report, as it
was both very well organized and informative.
Ralph Thompson
provided information regarding a communication he has received from
member Al Mazetta, who is a Director of the Independent Living
Association, Kingston Division. Al is a regular attendee at our
events, along with his daughter. The correspondence gave information
on the mandate of the ILA, and it is anticipated that they may
solicit a donation from us in the future.
Bill
Wilson spoke about the 11th
Annual Ride For Dad, taking place in Ottawa this year on June 4th,
which raises funds to combat Prostate Cancer. The event began in
Ottawa in 2000, with 50 bikes, has grown to 29 rides across Canada,
and has raised in excess of $7.3 million to date. There are 1298
riders who are members of the “Captain's Club', which is exclusive
to those who reach a certain amount in pledges...Bill Wilson is #86
on that list, and his goal for the coming year is to raise $3500.
All donations toward his goal are willingly accepted, and a request
for funding from the OB's as a group was made.
Ernie Olivo
discussed a brief history of the Toronto Bike Show, which is run by
Bar Hodgins, who has always extended a welcome to the Old Bastards to
his event. In addition, it was noted that the Ottawa Bike show was
happening and was open until 9pm, for those who were thinking of
attending.
Our next meeting was scheduled for
Saturday, February 26th at Bob's Diner in

2008 Charity: The Gananoque Youth Service is non-profit, have regular daily drop-in hours, tutoring and mentoring is available...the list goes on and on.Their return rate is high, which means both that there's a need for the facility, and that they're doing something right. There are a large number of kids who go on a very regular basis, and sometimes the snack that's provided for them (free of charge, if they don't have any $$) is the only decent food they get all day. A member heard that their fridge gave up the ghost last summer and called in a favour and got them a new one for free. About 2 weeks later she was standing in the Post Office when a woman that she barely recognized threw her arms around her and started thanking her with tears in her eyes...it was one of the workers at the Youth Centre. She told her about some of the kids there, and about some of the programs they offer and about how they try to get the kids involved in the community through things like picking up garbage in the park, helping to set up/clean up at various events and so on. In 2008 the membership agreed to donate $3000.00 to them.

June was another great month for us NOBS! The show in Ladysmith was a great success, not only did we have a good display of 49 motorcycles, but the spectator turnout was one of the best I have seen at local shows. At one time there were over 100 motorcycles in the parking lot plus many cars. All in all it was beyond my expectations! Well done to all who participated and worked at the show.
On Sunday June 24th we met in Arnprior at the ELGIN CAFÉ for breakfast. Even though rain threatened, especially for our western members, we had around 40 members and guests. Members of the CVMG Ottawa Section rode up to the meeting and joined us. The parking lot at the restaurant became a show place and lots of information was exchanged. A club thank you to Helen Bird for arranging the meeting.
At the meeting we discussed the Ladysmith show. The 50/50 draw at the show was won by Kim Hobbs of Shawville. She and the NOBS split $284.00. Ernie Pasch of the HOTEL LADYSMITH and NOB member said that he and his wife Cathy would put the show on again next year around the same time in June. We also decided to have 50/50 draws at each monthly meeting to raise money for our own section. We will decide in the future what to do with the proceeds from these 50/50 draws. The 50/50 draw winner at the meeting was NOB member Doug Ferguson of Braeside, $65.00 for Doug and $66.00 for the NOBS, how is that for math. Our next meeting will be on Sunday July 29 at Pine Lodge resort in Bristol Quebec. Wayne Duffy is arranging the August meeting in Petawawa followed by a tour of vehicles and equipment at the Military Museum there. NOBS MEMBERSHIP AS OF JULY 1 2007 = 61

Marilyn Crawford a member of the Old Bastards travelled across Canada on a motorcycle to raise awareness about organ donation, read more---->
LIVER DONOR & RECIPIENT MOTORCYCLING ACROSS CANADA Raising awareness for organ and tissue donation March 6, 2007, Toronto – In a move to raise awareness about the need for organ and tissue donation in Canada, today living liver donor Robert E. Crawford and his recipient Marilyn Olivo-Crawford announced they would ride motorcycles across Canada delivering the message to communities to sign their donor cards and speak to their families about their wishes. They will also be raising funds to purchase urgently needed equipment for the major organ transplant centres across Canada.
“Canadians are dying because there is a critical shortage of organs,” said Robert E. Crawford. “There was such a shortage that when Marilyn needed a liver, I wanted to help, but not everyone has that option. We want Canadians to know they can make a difference by signing their donor cards and talking to their families about their wishes – it’s important for every Canadian to understand that they can save a life.”
On September 26th, 2005 Robert donated 67% of his liver to his sister-in-law Marilyn. The surgery was done at Toronto General Hospital and it was a complete success.
“I don’t know what I would have done without Robert’s generosity because I know the typical waiting time for a kidney/liver is more than 6 years,” said Marilyn. “I was extremely lucky and now it’s my turn to give back. I want everyone to understand that they need to do more than sign their card and put it in their wallet – they need to have the discussion with their loved ones about their wishes. That discussion can save someone’s life.”
In partnership with the Ontario Government’s Trillium, Gift of Life Network, Robert and Marilyn will be riding motorcycles across Canada over 4 weeks, covering almost 8,000 Kms. The ride will begin July 21st and finish August 18th 2007. Stops include (St. John’s NL, Sydney & Halifax, NS. Fredericton NB. Quebec City & Montreal QC, Kingston, Toronto, Oakville, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay ON, Brandon MB, Regina SK, Medicine Hat, Calgary AB, Kamloops & Vancouver BC.). Both donor & recipient family members are involved and playing key roles in the planning and organization of this ride. The donor’s 9 year old son will be riding with Robert & Marilyn. Publicity events and rallies will be scheduled at all major centres along the route. Please check the website daily for location details and pictures.
